Dust Extraction

The Rheo Ventilation Sleeve provides localized dust extraction to contain airborne dust and vapor. The full perimeter slot design provides 360 degrees of extraction to ensure that proper air velocity is maintained in the dust zone despite obstructions, such as an operator’s hands or a drum liner.

Efficient Extraction Flow

The Rheo Ventilation Sleeve provides full perimeter extraction to deliver 150 fpm capture velocities within the dust zone of your process. Compare this difference to the conventional LEV approach that has no way of compensating for the flow obstructions such as an operator’s hand.

A variety of options are available for the Rheo Ventilation Sleeve to ensure the final product meets the application needs.

The following are a selection of some of the options available:

  • Sleeve Shape Options [including round and elliptical]
  • Mounting Options [including wall mount and swing arm]
  • Bag Landing Table
  • Bag Disposal Port
  • Cross Bars
  • Product Chute
  • Twist-Lock Exhaust Connection
  • Bag Liner Restraint Cage

The Ventilation Sleeve shape and size can be customized to fit most applications. Various mounting methods are used to position the sleeve in the application opening.

The Rheo Ventilation Sleeve has a removable cover that provides wipe-down access to all surfaces of the sleeve.

Ventilation Sleeve diameter can be customized to allow integration with your in-house dust extraction system.

Utility Requirements

The Ventilation Sleeve can be connected to any in-house dust extraction system or mobile dust collector/filter system. Utility requirements vary according to the diameter of the Ventilation Sleeve (airflow recommendations shown below).

**Flow recommendations are calculated to provide:
• Capture Velocity [at center]: 150 ft/min (approximately)
• Duct Velocity: 3500+ ft/min

diagram displays the capture velocity in different zones in the containment region for the Ventilation Sleeve

The design of the Rheo Ventilation Sleeve targets specific capture velocities within the containment region. These velocities, listed in feet per minute (fpm), are illustrated in the image. This image is for reference only, the velocities will vary based on the inner diameter and the duct size.

By using the drum liner and the Ventilation Sleeve, very good containment levels can be achieved while simplifying the operator experience and reducing the amount of cleaning required. A video is available that illustrates this operation.

-Another major component to this design is the basic procedure that is followed in using the Ventilation Sleeve. Often this sleeve is used for applications where products are being transferred from drums (with liners) or from bags or from discharge chutes (rigid or flexible). Part of the procedure requires that the drum liner, bag, or chute be used to channel the discharge below the extraction slots. Typically the operator chokes off the drum liner neck until it is positioned below the extraction slots, this prevents product from being pulled into the slots and it provides for the best containment. A video of this procedure is available.

-Verification: Some simple testing has been performed to evaluate product loss through a Ventilation Sleeve. One such field test was performed by dumping 49.8kg of product through the Ventilation Sleeve and the exhaust air was passed through an in-line filter. The total product collected in the in-line filter amounted to a total of 0.052kg which calculates to be a little above 0.1% product loss. This testing is very product-specific and Rheo offers product testing in our testing facility in Peoria, IL if desired.
